Born at Lluesty, Dyffryn Ardudwy, 14 August 1850, son of Edward Morgan (1817 — 1871). He was educated at Holt Academy; a school in Hastings; Bala C.M. College (entering 1865); and Edinburgh University (where he graduated M.A.), and New College. He became pastor of Caersalem, Barmouth, and was ordained 5 September 1877. In 1888 he accepted the pastorate of the English cause at Menai Bridge, but resigned from pastoral work in 1892 when he was appointed to collect an additional fund for the Bala College. He was secretary to the Bala College committee from 1886 to 1899. He went to live at Bangor, where he died 31 March 1899; he was buried at Towyn, Meironnydd.
He married, 23 October 1879 Barbara Elizabeth, daughter of Griffith Jones, Gwyddelfynydd, near Towyn, and granddaughter of Richard Jones (1772? — 1833) of Wern. He wrote on literary and political subjects to Y Traethodydd, Y Geninen, Y Drysorfa, and other publications; he was a widely-read man and a trenchant controversialist, taking a prominent part in the disestablishment debates. From June 1889 until April 1891 he was with O. M. Edwards, co-editor of the monthly Cymru Fydd. He adapted Pitman’s system of shorthand to Welsh in Phonographia (1876, 2nd edition 1878).
